Time to get active

With the 1000th execution probably later in November, it's time for everybody to write letters to newspapers--and point to the possibility of innocence. Marlin Gray, who was executed October 26, had some serious issues of reasonable doubt; so does Reginald Clemons, who received a death sentence for the same murders.

Sometimes we think that writing to the editor is a waste of time, especially if our letters don't get published. BUT - the more letters we write, the more that will get published from "somebody" because the paper pays attention to volume of letters received on a given subject. Let's flood them about the 1,000 senseless murders by government, at taxpayer expense!

A letter writing campaign is an excellent way to get involved. Several organizations in California including Death Penalty Focus and Amnesty International USA have organized an 800 mile walk to raise awareness and unite death penalty opponents. Please follow the link below to learn more.

Dear fellow activist,

Hello! My name is Helen Oh and I am currently an intern with Amnesty International in the Midwest Regional Office located in Chicago. As an intern, my specialty focus is event planning, specifically focusing on the case of Reggie Clemons. I came across your blog and it is great to see your support for the case and the abolition of the death penalty. It is truly saddening that Marlin Gray was executed but we must do all we can to stop more innocent people from being executed.

I am contacting you because Amnesty will be hosting a rally for Reggie that will take place September 15th, 2012 in St. Louis, two days before his hearing. We are trying to spread the word about the rally to mobilize as many people as possible, as well as gather hundreds, hopefully thousands, of signatures to repeal his death sentence.

It would be wonderful to create a large movement for Reggie with this rally for Reggie's justice. Please let me know if you are interested and information about yourself or your group, because I would love to work with you! If there is also a better way to contact you please let me know.

Thank you for what you do, and I look forward to hearing from you,

Helen Oh
